Brake Fluid

High-Performance Brake Fluid Essentials

Standard brake fluids won’t cut it in racing. Extreme temperatures demand a fluid with a high Dry Boiling Point to prevent boiling and low compressibility for a firm pedal feel.

  • Dry Boiling Point: The max temp before fresh fluid boils—DOT 3 fluids can reach up to 572°F.
  • Wet Boiling Point: After absorbing moisture, the boiling point drops—DOT 3 requires at least 284°F.

Moisture sneaks in through condensation, humidity, and washing. Glycol-based DOT 3 & 4 fluids absorb moisture, lowering performance over time.

Avoid DOT 5 fluid in racing—it doesn’t absorb moisture, leading to water pooling in calipers. At 212°F, that water boils, causing vapor lock and brake failure. DOT 5 also aerates easily, making the pedal feel spongy.

Best Practices

  • Never mix different DOT fluids.
  • Fresh fluid contaminates instantly—flush the system completely.
  • Use the highest Dry Boiling Point fluid available and flush regularly, especially after extreme heat cycles.

Stay ahead of brake fade—choose the right fluid and keep it fresh.
