Shop Safety Requirements
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Safety glasses (required at all times)
- Closed-toe shoes with good grip
- Work gloves when handling components
- Back support belt when lifting heavy components
Shop Environment
- Adequate lighting for precise measurements
- Clean, level floor surface
- Proper ventilation when working with fuels and lubricants
- Fire extinguisher readily accessible
- First aid kit available
Equipment Safety
Scale Safety
- Verify scale capacity before placing car
- Ensure scales are level and calibrated
- Check for debris that could affect readings
- Never exceed manufacturer's weight limits
Jack Safety
- Use jack stands - never work under a car supported only by jacks
- Inspect jack stands for damage before use
- Position jack stands on solid mounting points
- Never rush when raising or lowering the car
Fuel Handling
- No smoking or open flames in work area
- Proper fuel storage containers only
- Spill cleanup materials readily available
- Understand methanol safety properties (invisible flame, toxic vapors)
Component Handling
Heavy Components
- Get help when removing or installing heavy parts
- Use proper lifting techniques
- Secure loose parts to prevent falling
- Clean hands and tools to prevent slipping
- Fuel requirements (20 gallons for 32-gal cell, 10 gallons for 22-gal cell)
- Scale tire installation and consistency
- Stagger specifications (1" front, 1.5" rear)
